Salmond ignoring parliament over alcohol plan

Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Ross Finnie MSP challenged the First Minister about the SNP's flawed plan to raise the legal age for buying alcohol in shops to 21.

Speaking after First Minister's Questions, Mr Finnie said:

"MSPs decisively rejected the principle of raising the age from 18-21. It is, therefore, astonishing that the First Minister is wilfully ignoring Parliament and pressing ahead with this flawed plan.

"There is no evidence to suggest that youth offending is carried out by 18-21-year-olds, which undermines the SNP's dogged defence of this move.

"When will the First Minister realise that simply demonising an entire generation of 18 to 21 year olds as irresponsible drinkers is not the answer to Scotland's alcohol problems."
