Liberal Democrats have revealed that just under a third of the SNP's Parliamentary Party, including their Chief Whip, has signed a motion from Alex Neil calling for HBOS to remain an independent bank. This sharply contrasts with SNP Ministers' and indeed the First Minister's refusal to comment on the future independence of HBOS.
In a breathtaking display of hypocrisy, Alex Neil today has called for a "united Scottish voice" to "boost the Scottish economy".
Commenting, Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Jeremy Purvis MSP said:
"Liberal Democrats have revealed an astonishing revolt by SNP MSPs, including their Chief Whip Brian Adam, over the future of HBOS.
"This serious rift in the SNP totally undermines Alex Neil's hollow plea for consensus about economic policies.
"Within one day, just under a third of the SNP Parliamentary Party has backed a motion calling for HBOS to remain an independent bank.
"This cannot be anything other than a criticism of SNP Ministers and the First Minister's silence over the future independence of HBOS."
