Tavish Scott, leader of the Liberal Democrats in Scotland has urged the Scottish Government to step in to stop a fresh round of council strikes.
Unite and GMB unions, who represent council workers, have rejected their latest pay offer, raising the prospect of another wave of strike action.
Commenting, Mr Scott said:
"Pay policy is the Government's responsibility. Ministers must make avoiding another round of damaging council strikes a priority.
"Public sector strikes have a direct impact on the services that everyone relies on. At a time when people across the country are already feeling hard pressed, having to cope with extra pressures couldn't come at a worse time."
