Commenting on the joint statement from Sir Peter Burt and Sir George Mathewson explaining their decision to end their campaign to keep HBOS an independent bank, leader of the Liberal Democrats in Scotland, Tavish Scott said:
"I entirely understand why Sir Peter Burt and Sir George Mathewson's campaign has ended. The UK Government ripped up the level playing field.
"The UK Government's scandalous sell out has thrown 20,000 jobs to the wind. The Scottish Government must now take action to support those at risk of losing their jobs.
"Scottish Ministers must call a meeting next week of FiSAB (Financial Services Advisory Board) and establish a taskforce, as I called for yesterday in Parliament."
