Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Ross Finnie MSP has called for an awareness raising campaign to help tackle Scotland's rising rate of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Figures published today show that in 2007 453 new cases of HIV were identified in Scotland, the highest annual total of new cases since recording began in 1984.
Commenting, Mr Finnie said:
"These are genuinely worrying statistics. The increase in recorded HIV infections will set alarm bells ringing for those who believe that this is a disease of the Eighties.
"More must be done to educate people and raise sexual health awareness across all age groups."
