Liberal Democrat Justice spokesperson Robert Brown MSP has called on the Justice Secretary to confirm if the Government has factored in properly the number of police officers who will be leaving Scotland's forces when the commitment to recruit 1000 additional officers by 2011 was made.
A report issued today from the Scottish Policing Performance Framework warns that gains will always be offset by the number of officers leaving".
Commenting, Mr Brown said:
"Liberal Democrats have already revealed that the Government is not currently on track to recruit 1000 additional officers by 2011. Today's report casts further doubt over the SNP's police recruitment pledge.
"This report by the Scottish Policing Performance Framework states that gains will always be offset by the number of officers leaving".
"I want to know if the Justice Secretary factored in properly the number of officers who will be leaving Scotland's forces when he made his commitment about recruitment."
