Sir Robert Smith MP officially opened the new Westhill Citizen Advice Bureau last month. The new CAB was set up following a pilot advice scheme identified the need for a local advice service.

Local Cllr. Gurudeo Saluja has welcomed the development of the Citizens Advice Bureau for Westhill & District which was set up in early 2007 as Westhill & District Advice Centre (WADAC). Cllr Saluja commented "I am very pleased that an initial pilot scheme set up by Aberdeenshire Advice Services Network funded by Aberdeenshire Council has led to a fully-fledged Citizens Advice Bureau for Westhill and District. None of this would have been possible without the commitment of the local volunteers on both the management committee and on the advice team."

After the opening event local MP Sir Robert Smith stated "I had the very pleasant task of officially opening the Citizens Advice Bureau's new premises in Westhill. The smart new offices and extra space will help ensure more helpful advice is available to those who need it. I would like to thank all those who give of their time throughout the northeast ensuring local advice centres are able to operate."

Roads in and around Westhill, starting at the Tesco roundabout were repaired speedily after prolonged ice and snow in January played havoc with road surfaces.

Cllr Saluja commented "Large pot holes were reported in and around Westhill after the thaw. The prolonged freezing temperatures saw the Aberdeenshire Council Roads Department personnel working non-stop over the holiday period and again straight after the thaw. I would like to pass on my thanks for all their hard work during and after this difficult spell. It was good to see the road surfaces promptly made safe as soon as the freezing temperatures and snow subsided."

TACKLE BINGE DRINKING

Mike Rumbles and a Police Officer

Mike Rumbles discusses alohol related problems with a police officer

Mike has called on the SNP government to help the police tackle problems with binge drinking.

Mike said: "We all recognise the problems of underage and binge drinking. The way to tackle this is to enforce the laws we already have. Hardly anyone has been prosecuted for selling alcohol to under 18's or to those already under the influence of drink.

"We must give adequate resources to the police to enforce the law and combine it with an educational programme aimed at changing Scotland's drinking culture."
